At Eden Roc Garage Doors, we sell and install a range of sectional door openers to suite every application and budget. Sectional garage door openers (motors) are usually mounted on the ceiling and function by initiating the up and down cycle of the sectional door.

Sectional door openers (Motors)

When selecting a sectional door motor there are some important considerations to keep in mind. The motor you select should be influenced by the size and weight of the door, the amount of clearance between the door and the ceiling when open and environmental factors such as humidity or proximity to the ocean.

Most sectional doors can easily be operated with motors with a force rating of 650Nm or greater, it is important that the door is serviced regularly and spring tension is adjusted, as it is the springs which are actually responsible for lifting the door. Larger heavier doors may require motors with up to 1200Nm force ratings.

At Eden Roc Garage Doors we recommend the Merlin or ATA range of motors as these are both reputable brands with excellent warranties and after sales service. For smaller doors we recommend the ATA GDO11 or the Merlin PowerAce and for larger doors or tilt doors we recommend the ATA GDO9 or the Merlin Tiltmaster or Whisper Drive. All these motors have at least a 5 year warranty on the DC motors (7 years on the Merlin Tiltmaster or Whisper Drive)

All the motors we recommend are belt driven which helps to ensure that they operate quietly and are not susceptible to corrosion that is common with the old chain driven openers.

At Eden Roc Garage Doors, we will always service the garage door prior to installing a new motor to ensure that the motor is not straining and that the manufacturer warranties are not affected.

*Coffin style garages (with no access other than through the garage door) should always be fitted with a manual key release when considering automation.

Roller door openers (Motors)

At Eden Roc Garage Doors, we sell and install a range of roller door motors to suite every application and budget. Roller door openers are mounted on the side of the roller door and operate by driving the hub inside the roller door up and down.

To allow for an automation, we require approximately 120mm of sideroom on one side and a powerpoint within about 500mm of the axle. Roller doors which are in poor condition, with rusted tracks or fraying nylafelt, are often not suitable for automation and we would always take this into consideration before recommending automation.

At Eden Roc Garage Doors we recommend the Merlin or ATA ranges as these are both reputable brands with excellent warranties and after sales service. For single roller doors we recommend the Merlin MR650EVO or the ATA GDO6 and for domestic double doors we recommend the Merlin MR850EVO or the ATA GDO6. Very large light industrial or industrial doors, we recommend the Merlin MRC950EVO or the ATA GDO10. For roller doors which are more exposed to the elements, we recommend the ATAGDO8 which is specifically designed for this application.

It is important that roller door openers are professionally installed and regularly serviced to ensure that they provide security and comply with specifications to ensure that warranties are not affected. At Eden Roc Garage Doors, we will always service the garage door prior to installing a new motor to ensure that the motor is not straining and that the manufacturer warranties are not affected.
